Our experience hiking from Corvatsch Murtèl via Val Roseg to Pontresina

The hike offers stunning views over the Engadin lakes and the Bernina Massiv. The highlight of this hike is the view from Fuorcla Surlej to Piz Tschierva, Piz Morteratsch and Piz Bernina. During the hike from Fuorcla Surlej to Val Rosegg, hikers get impressive views of the glaciers which formed the valley over time.

Hiking from Corvatsch Murtèl to Fuorcla Surlej

We took the cable car from Silvaplana Surlej to the middle station of the Corvatsch cable car (opening times here). At the middle station, we enjoyed spectacular views of the lake area of Oberengadin. For the next 45 minutes, we walked on broad gravel roads slightly uphill to Fuorcla Surlej. This is a rather easy hike.

Stunning views of the Berninamassiv from Fuorcla Surlej

What a view of the Bernina-massif! Many hikers enjoyed a picnic on the rocks shaped by the eternal ice. We sat down in awe, almost forgetting to take pictures. From here one can feel the cold of the glaciers close by. There is a mountain hut on Fuorcla Surlej. You can check out the opening times and contact info here.

A wonderful descent from Fuorcla Surlej to Val Roseg

From Fuorcla Surlej the path goes mostly downhill. We absolutely loved the views of Val Roseg from here. At times, we missed the hiking path (we went late in the year). Make sure you follow the signage. The hike from Fuorcla Surlej to Val Roseg took us about 2.5 hours. We enjoyed every minute of it. This hike feels like spending time in the Canadian wilderness. For most of the time, we did not see any other hikers. Just nature and us.

Arrival at Hotel Restaurant Roseg

We made it to Hotel Restaurant Roseg valley which was kind of a return to civilization. Many people come here by horse-drawn carriage directly from Pontresina (check out our recommendations for gourmet hikers below). We sat down at a table outside and ate. Delicious.

Hiking from Val Roseg to P0ntresina

After a break and a delicious meal in Val Roseg, we decided to hike to Pontresina. For a moment, we were tempted to take the “horse-cab”, but then we decided to burn the calories we took on during our Roseg break. Most of the time, a small trail took us through a forest, offering views of the river. It’s a fairy tale hike and we absolutely loved it. After 1.5 hours we saw the train of the Rhaetian railway and reached Pontresina where we checked into our hotel
