Our experience at Hotel Regina Mürren

We had dinner at Hotel Regina Mürren while hiking on the Via Alpina in June 2020. We immediately fell in love with the hotels’ unique style. This place is one of the best-kept secrets in the Swiss Alps. Read more about our dining experience at Hotel Regina below.

About the Hotel: The rooms at Hotel Regina Mürren

The red building stands in the middle of the mountain village Mürren. The girl at the front desk was very friendly and showed us the rooms which were renovated with care. They offer modern facilities while keeping true to the hotel’s Art Deco style. After the rooms, she showed us the Jungfrausaal, the dining hall with big windows. We were struck by the beauty of this dining hall which offers views right on the Jungfrau massif. We made a reservation for the evening.

Aperitif with a view of Mount Jungfrau on the terrace at Hotel Regina Mürren

We started the culinary adventure with a glass of Sancerre on the terrace. The legs were still hurting from today’s hike from Wengen so the glass of white wine helped. We cheered to the Jungfrau massif vis-à-vis and enjoyed the warm summer breeze at the end of a hot summer day in the mountains.

Diner at Hotel Regina Mürren

The dining room of this Art Deco hotel struck me. Through the high windows, I watched the last sunbeams of the day caress the mountains on the other side of the valley. What happened in the halls of hotel Regina over the last century? I discarded the thought, sat at the table, and ordered a glass of Champagne.

The green salad was crispy and fresh. As we were really hungry from the hike we couldn’t wait for the main dish. Matthias went for the veal ragout with housemade potato mash and veggies. He looked very happy. I decided to go with my favorite dish: homemade ravioli. I did not regret it for a minute. They added sage and pine cones on top. It was all I hoped for.

So far this was just the perfect dinner. While sipping on our Pinot Noir, we were discussing about the dessert as we always do. And as always we went for it.

Conclusion: A love declaration to Hotel Regina Mürren

What to do during your stay at Hotel Regina in Mürren

If you are in Mürren visit Schilthorn. The views of mount Eiger, Mönch, and Jungfrau are truly among the best in Switzerland. The panoramic restaurant with the iconic name Piz Gloria was built in the 1960s. The building was named after a fictional mountain peak in the James Bond movie “on her majesty’s secret service” (1969) in which it served as the headquarters for 007’s arch-enemy Ernst Stavro Blofeld. Today there is a James Bond exposition (Bond world) and cinema where key scenes from the movie are shown. Visitors can learn more about the film shooting on Piz Gloria and Mürren. I had a blast up there & loved the moment when you get in the cable car and hear the theme of the James Bond movie.
